Reports that the eye lash growth product Latisse, is being tested for hair loss drug benefits.

Can Latisse be used to help balding patients? A trial is being formed to see if Latisse, the prescription serum for growing thicker and fuller eyelashes is slated to begin testing in hair loss patients (alopecia) according to the drug maker.

The initial testing group is expected to be small (28 people) but it is a step towards the ominous and costly requirements of FDA approval (estimated to be at least 20 millions dollars.)

The drug company Allergan, is in the process of initiating the clinical trial, and the test group is said to include both men and women suffering from hair loss, early to moderate male pattern baldness, and moderate female pattern baldness.

The eyelash drug won FDA approval in In 2008, and is applied directly on the eyelashes.

Dr. Richard Mizuguchi is quoted as saying “It’s actually really exciting, It’s been talked about forever, and there really haven’t been any new topical medications in a long time.”

Latisse has been received well in the growing eyelash growth product industry.

So is Latisse the product all completely bald men and women have been waiting for?  Probably not, like all new and high end product the price is likely to be expensive, and  you would need to use it consistently, and maintain use forever.

Representatives says it may work best when combined with one of the other hair loss products and medications currently on the market. Hair-growth treatments generally are most effective in people who aren’t completely bald. It is well established that hair-growth medication yields the best long term results when you haven’t lost your hair yet.
